Hiya,
I'm in the process of purchasing a CNC router to help automate the production of acrylic glass for custom picture framing and am trying to get out in front of the software piece.
Each day, I produce a spreadsheet that has a few hundred entries -- each with a set of dimensions for the rectangle of acrylic that needs to be cut. We currently do this manually: measure, score the acrylic, snap it, repeat. I'd like to take my list of rectangles (currently expressed as simple length/width dimensions in excel), transform them into the necessary vector format, and then have them nested in VCarve Pro to optimize for waste and be cut by the CNC. If anyone has any experience here, suggestions, or even a nod in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it.
thanks much,
-- Gregg

Paul's CSV gadget - http://paulrowntree.weebly.com/gadgets.html - should be able to get the vectors into VCarve so you can nest them from there.

Hi gsphalen
The CSV gadget has also been updated so that you can do a lot of shapes and calculations with single line entries in the CSV file. This includes polygons, circles, special functions, and vectors.
Or, just treat it as a bunch of points, one per line, and the gadget will connect the dots.
Cheers!

Re: Generating files to nest from a CSV
I downloaded the Gadget but it only works with points?
How do I make it read the width and length of the rectangle in the CSV?
And how do I add circles inside this rectangle?
And another rectangle inside the rectangle?

Attached is an example of a CSV to 2d file using Rowntree's gadget that creates nested rectangles, each in a specific layer that you can color as you like in the Vectric product. To create a circle rather than a rectangle, you would use !Circle,Xcenter,Ycenter,Radius
