Gadget with two or more paths

Post by Fernando »

Hi,
I need to create a Gadget similar to the one below, but that performs more than one operation on the same Gadget.

For example:
Cut path with cut layer
Roughing toolpath with Roughing layer
V-carve path for Vcarve layer
And so on

I tested it in a few ways but it always runs only one route.
Can you help me?

Another thing is that I am not able to generate the G-code automatically through the Gadget as shown in the SDK examples.

Thanks a lot if you can help me with these questions.

Hi,
I need to create a Gadget similar to the one below, but that performs more than one operation on the same Gadget.

For example:
Cut path with cut layer
Roughing toolpath with Roughing layer
V-carve path for Vcarve layer
And so on

I tested it in a few ways but it always runs only one route.
Can you help me?

Another thing is that I am not able to generate the G-code automatically through the Gadget as shown in the SDK examples.

Thanks a lot if you can help me with these questions.

Hi Fernando,

I would write code to loop for each layer you want to process.
let me know if you need help building the loop code.
Thanks,
Jim

Post by adze_cnc »

You seem to be on the right course. It's just a case of adding the require functions and calls for what you want:

Code: Select all

function CreateLayerProfileToolpath(...)
function CreateLayerVCarveToolpath(...)
function CreateLayerRoughingToolpath(...)
etc.

function main()
...
success = CreateLayerProfileToolpath(...)
success = CreateLayerVCarveToolpath(...)
success = CreateLayerRoughingToolpath(...)
etc.
Remember that the :CreateRoughingToolpath and :CreateFinishingToolpath methods are for Aspire only.

Please note that every instance of:

Code: Select all

tool.VBitAngle = ...
in the SDK document is wrong (and has been since at least 2013). If you use that you will always get a 90 degree bit no matter what value you specify. The actual way to reference it is:

Code: Select all

tool.VBit_Angle = ...
Note that when including code snippets in a forum post you can use the code tags as in the image below (the blue circle icon puts them in for you).

Another thing is that I am not able to generate the G-code automatically through the Gadget as shown in the SDK examples.
Would that be the "ToolSaver" discussed in the SDK? If so, after creating the toolpaths programmatically you might need to run something to refresh the list. Otherwise the ToolSaver might not see what you've just created. Much like after drawing some objects you need to refresh the view.

I haven't got a clue what that refresh command might be (if it is necessary).

You may want to look at this V9 gadget - https://gadgets.vectric.com/V9/apply_template - for further examples of saving code directly.

I haven't looked to see if the calls are all still valid in the latest versions but the code I wrote back then certainly wrote out multiple toolpaths without issues.

I'm on my way
I was able to create for 2 cutting paths
but for the error filling path, see:
