I would imagine that the material selection is done after the image selection. Thus changing length or width would need changing the other value to maintain the same aspect ratio of the image.

So, I'd expect that the way to stop the would be to crop the original image. But, I'm not too familiar with PhotoVCarve.

You can't. As the Help says the original ratio of the source image is retained. As stated above you would have to crop the image itself.

You have more flexibility with the photovcarve toolpath in VCarve and Aspire.
