Hello all, I am just trying to carve a basic 5 point star. The star comes out slanted every time. What setting have I goofed up? TIA

Re: Basic design
Without knowing more it is just guess work, screenshots of your settings & pictures of how things are turning out will help & if there are no copyright problems the actual crv file

Re: Basic design
I think we will need a little more information. Toolpath, depth, bit used. Posting the actual .crv would help the most.

Re: Basic design
“Carve” (which is quite vague—“VCarve / Engraving Toolpath”, “Profile”, other?) or drawing a 5-pointed star.
If it’s drawing do you mean that the left and right arms are not horizontal (i.e. “sloped”)? If that’s the case enter 38.2 as the inner radius percentage and they will be close to horizontal. If you could enter two decimal points in that value it would be more like 31.18.

Sorry about that. Using a 1/8 flat nose bit, attached is a photo of star and screen shot of settings.

Re: Basic design
The CRV file will help far more than a picture. Please upload the CRV file.
Here is a link to the FAQ describing how to upload your file. (How do I upload files or photos to the forum?)
If the file is too large to upload here you can use a file sharing site such as drive.google.com, onedrive.com, or dropbox.com. They all have free accounts available

Google for star svg
You will find free vectors of many different star patterns, some of which will have the flat horizontal elements you are looking for.
Download one of your choice, then import to Vcarve and size and place as desired.

Re: Basic design
Very vague on information provided to the issue at hand but you will get there in time.
Here is a screen shot of the same dimensioned star in a simulation preview from V-Carve Pro Version 11.014
Used two tools 1/8" end mill and a 1/16" endmill Pocket Toolpath at .25" deep in .75" Stock Material

Re: Basic design
Ok, still having issues. I am just trying to carve 50 stars .125 deep. I am using 1/8 end mill, Updated V-carve desktop. Using OpenBuilds controller. Attached are the files and picks. I can't get the 5 point star straight. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Basic design
What bit are you actually cutting with. The file shows a 1/8" and 1/4" end mill but to me the picture looks like it is being cut with a ballnose bit (the picture is not real clear unfortunately).

Re: Basic design
The file shows a cut depth of 0.065"stars .125 deep
I'd suggest that you drop the 1/4" end mill. The bit change is an opportunity for error.
If you change the cut depth to 0.125, and change the pass depth of the 1/8" end mill to 0.0625" then it would cut it in 2 passes instead of 3.

Re: Basic design
I agree with Randall.
Remove the .25 EM and just use the .125.
Also I would increase the speed to ~60-80 ipm

Re: Basic design
I agree with Randall.
Looking at the preview all looks good.
At 99.9% of the time if the preview looks good - so is the code.
Looking at the machine pics in a web search, the machine looks as a pretty light duty machine.
Make sure the workpiece is SECURELY fastened to the bed and make sure all nuts and bolts and belts are properly tightened and tensioned.
It is more likely a machine issue than a programming issue.

Re: Basic design
Hmmm.
I didn't pay attention to his machine.
Maybe 60-80 ipm would be pushing it a bit to much.
