Cigar Ashtray
Had this nice chunk of maple and I saw some recent cigar ashtrays that were part turned, part hand carved. So I decided to try one. I know a few people who are really into cigars, I don’t partake myself, so I’m sure one of them will like this.
Bored out a 2” hole with a Forstner bit 3/4” deep. Roughed with a 1/2” end mill. Finish cut the bowl and cigar rests with 1/4” ball. Then cut the weave areas with 1/16”TBN. These picks are after one coat of GF Seal-a-cel coat. Finishing this one with 3 coats of GF arm-r-seal semi gloss.
Thanks for looking!

That is beautiful.
I make and sell cigar ashtrays myself, but yours is much nicer.

Thanks, and your’s are great also. What finish do you use? I’ve seen some where the pre-scorch the ash bowl with a torch.

I use either Boiled Linseed Oil or Tung oil.
I also glue a non marring rubber pad on the bottom to protect furniture.
its actually a floor runner material I get from Home Depot and cut to size.
I don't pre scorch.

Nice, I just might take up cigar smoking so I have a reason to make one.

Thanks Scott. I posted this for sale and it was gone in 10 minutes. Didn’t realize they were so popular.

Very nice design! Any chance you would care to share your project file with me? I am a newbie and a cigar smoker so this could be my first project! I know I may be asking a lot so if you are not comfortable, I certainly understand?BillK wrote: ↑Fri Jan 29, 2021 6:20 pmHad this nice chunk of maple and I saw some recent cigar ashtrays that were part turned, part hand carved.
