Another Name Sign

Post by SteveNelson46 »

Over the last 4 or 5 years I think I've made about 50 or 60 of these. They seem to be popular with friends and family and a quick and easy evening project. I had some scrap Bocote left over from a yester-year project and thought it would make a good name sign.

That is beautiful. I would like to make some for my 3 grandkids. Can you provide a few details on how you created the cut file. I assume that you created a model with the Create Shop Curved Profile.
Since you have made many you have likely fine tuned the process, chosen a suitable font and ideal specs for the model.
Your help is appreciated.

Phil :)

Phil,
I used "Snap ITC" for the font and adjusted the kerning. The 3D shapes were made with the "Create Shape tool". Also, I didn't use a cutout. Instead I used a "pierced" approach by using an offset boundary in the finish toolpath with a limit plane and manual tabs. It's similar to Becki's video on the two sided Marlin. It's a two part project with the name and the base as separate files. I cut the base last so I could sneek up on the slot width for a better fit. To mount the two together I used 5 minute epoxy and a small brass screw from the bottom to hold it in place while the epoxy hardened. Here is a link to the the file. You may use or change it in any way you wish. Show us some pics of your finished project.
