Dressing Mirror
I haven't been active on my CNC for the last few months. My mother passed away last August and I've been dealing with various family issues. Also, it's been a particularly hot summer here in Tucson with daytime temps well over 100 degrees so I've been waiting for the weather to cool a bit.
I started this project last February and just got around to finishing it this week. It's a derivative of a project from a Woodsmith magazine of yester-year that I adapted for the CNC. The wood is Cherry and it doesn't have a mirror yet but I plan to take the frame over to a glass and mirror shop sometime this week.

Re: Dressing Mirror
Wow, Steve, that is a gorgeous piece and so nicely finished as well. are the drawers all one piece or did you carve a panel like a small
door panel? Either way, simply stunning.
My condolences on the loss of your mom, its hard to lose a parent. You and your family are in my prayers.

Re: Dressing Mirror
I carved each of the drawers in 2 separate carves. The main part of the drawer (compartments) were carved from a block of 2" thick cherry and then the grooves for the slides and the runners were cut on the table saw. The runners were glued in place before assembly. The fronts were 3d carved and then attached to the body of the drawer with screws from the inside. The screw for the knobs goes all the way through the front into the body to help hold the fronts on.Holzarbeiter wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 2:10 pmWow, Steve, that is a gorgeous piece and so nicely finished as well. are the drawers all one piece or did you carve a panel like a small

Sweet!
Over the years I have built quite a few of the WoodSmith projects. Really well designed stuff. In fact, I did pretty much their entire bedroom series that go back to some of the early issues.

Re: Dressing Mirror
A BIG thank you to all who commented here.
I have built quite a few Woodsmith projects also. Mostly before my CNC days. Some of them are easy to adapt for cutting on a CNC machine and some are not. A while back I built one of their blanket chests. I didn't use a CNC but it still proved to be a challenge. Most of the wood dimensions in the drawings were 15/16" thick.

Re: Dressing Mirror
Most of what I know about wood working came from WoodSmith and Shop Notes. When I got started a friend at work loaned me a big stack of his WS and SN magazines. Now I have all of them up to about 5 or 6 years ago. Every now and then I haul them out, pile them next to my chair and go through them again. I highly recommend them to anyone interested in wood working. And the big bonus is NO ADS!!!!
