Eagle in the Woods

Post by Beltramidave »

1.5" thick Ash slab, 12"H x 8"W. Roughed with 1/2" endmill, finished with 1/8" ball nose with 8% stepover.
Wanted to try adding some color using stains, so I put a coat of sanding sealer on first and then applied different colored stains.

Very nice work.
Was the ash slab wet, air-dried, kiln-dried?
The reason I ask is I have a bunch of ash trees killed by a beetle infestation and I am trying to decide how best to process them so I can use on the CNC.

Thanks,
Paul

The slab was air dried for about 1-1/2 years. I did not check the moisture on it as I was just 'playing' around...

Excellent job. Very nice touch adding the stains. It raises it to another level.

Dave, the finish techniques you applied are what really “make” this outstanding piece! I didn’t see it when you originally posted, but I sure am glad to view it now! You did a stellar job. Very impressive !
