What is the best router?
What is the best router?
I'm planning to buy the CNC Shark SD120 router table. I'm leaning toward using a DeWalt router because it has 1.25 hp. I'm looking for some guidance on what model no. to buy, or for other recommendations. Because the SD120 only accepts 1/4-inch shanks, I want to buy the best that DeWalt sells. Thanks for your input.

Consider also getting a superPID speed control. It will allow router speeds down to 5,000 rpm. At the slower feeds, stock router speeds are way too fast for most woods. You want to make chips, not dust.

It's not the CNC machine that only accepts 1/4" shank bits it's the routers they recommend you use. It looks to be a lightweight machine & from what I can see they say to use a palm router (more than likely because of weight) which only seem to come with a 1/4" collet.John E wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 3:47 amI'm planning to buy the CNC Shark SD120 router table. Looking at what they suggest then both the dewalt & the porter cable have the same 1.25 hp but I couldn't tell you which is the better of the two
The dewalt 611 is one mentioned & if you check Dewalts site it seems to be the only compact model they sell.

Makita (Makita RT0701C 1-1/4 HP Compact Router). No doubt. You don't need the extra HP, because the machine limits will be reached before you do. (NOT dissing your machine choice! )
You'll probably change bearings in the DeWalt, but you will certainly change brushes more often.
That's my 2 cents.
