Convert PDF to editable Vectors

Post by DET1242 »

I am using VCarve Pro. I have a number (25) of pdf's that I want to import to VCarve and then edit the size. The PDF's are 5" and I need them a 4.250" as a final.

To do anything with the pdf, you first import the pdf with vector input. Next draw a rectangle around the image area to save. Highlight the rectangle and the bitmap (you image is a bitmap) and use the Crop Bitmap tool. Resize and you're done. You still have to convert the bitmap to vector by auto trace or tracing it with the drawing tools.
or
Import the pdf, auto trace everything, and throw out what you don't want, resize.
or
Import the pdf, manually trace everything, resize.

I would go with the last option. This original image is not great quality.

If you want top quality results it pays to learn how to manually trace artwork. Just my two cents.

+1. The new 'set fading of selected object' now works fantastic for manual tracing.

In this tutorial we will show you how to import a low quality bitmap and with the help of the bitmap and vector editing tools show you how to create a vector logo. We will also touch on basic text editing.

As far back as I can remember, the fade option has always been there. Yes - it can be very handy!

The image quality when brought in as a PDF file may not be great but when the image is extracted from the PDF with Acrobat to a PNG it’s fairly acceptable.

This must be a fairly ancient PDF file as the internal version is PDF 1.3 which was superceded by PDF 1.4 around 2001 or 2002.

You are quite right.... I did a little research and I think it appeared as a new feature in Version 5!!! I would've bet that it was a new feature in a fairly recent version. Must be just a senior moment....
