For those of you that didn't tune in...We are thrilled to announce that our NEW Laser Module will be COMING SOON 🎉

In addition to 10.5 we'll also be releasing a BRAND NEW Laser Module which can be purchased as an add on to any of our core V10.5+ products for $49!

See the laser module in action:

That looks like a great add on. The one question I have is - will it work on a stand alone laser? I can see me wanting to use it for the 3d effect.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your question.

The laser module will work on a standalone laser if the laser can read GCode. Some features, such as lasering accurately over a 3D surface rely on laser software being able to control the Z-axis as well as the x and y axes.

I hope this helps.

Thanks
Stephanie

Love all the new features. Another one you folks should work on would be to add a 3D printer slicer. Lately I've been doing several 3D prints using components drawn up in Aspire. Seems like many of the needed features are already in the software.

I've been doing Laser work using the Engraving tool paths and really like the Fill using the Offset strategy. Is there any chance to see that strategy in the Laser module?

Recently a person on the Shapeoko forum posted the following in reference to other laser software software's capability:
... I added two extra commands to my “Use Laser” and “Use CNC” macro buttons to toggle GRBL laser mode ($32) and to set the GRBL status mask ($10). The laser mode has to be set right if you want to laser raster images (it turns off movement pauses when the router speed (the laser intensity) changes. I think the GRBL status mask being set incorrectly was preventing jogging in Carbide Motion.
My “Use Laser” macro button runs:
$10=0
$32=1
G10 L2 P1 X-812 Y-812

My “Use CNC” macro button runs:
G10 L2 P1 X0 Y0
$10=255
$32=0

The X and Y numbers on the G10 line for “Use Laser” will vary depending on what size Shapeoko you have.

Is this kind of capability to adjust to various machines going to be added as well?

It looks like he's just changing the settings in GRBL, and it has nothing to do with the Laser Module or the code it outputs.

Actually, those "macros" are used from within other laser software software and change the gcode produced for a specific machine. So, I'm wondering in anticipation if this new Laser Module will allow us to do something like that where we can customize the gcode it produces.

It's no different to the way the software works now with all the code being created via the post processor.

Exactly! I modified my post processors to insert the code for the laser on and off into all my tool paths. That way I just select the correct post processor and go from there.

I did find a little hiccup with CNCjs where I need to put a "%wait" CNCjs command after the $32 settings. CNCjs will occasionally hang up if I don't do that.
