Acrylic tabs

Post by Aussie »

Hi All,

I am cutting small acrylic pieces and need to use tabs, to cut tabs I normally use a flush cutting saw but these pieces are too small for this saw.
I think the pieces are too small to use the CA glue method as well.
Can you suggest a method to cut the tabs?

Thanks
Ron

Hmmm, maybe dig through some hobby type stuff, like model railroad guys use.

I have a very small trim saw that I picked up somewhere, the blade is only about 8 mm wide.

There might be something for an eXacto knife too. . . .

Just tossing some ideas out there.

For the types of plastic I usually cut I just us a sharp 1/4" chisel to get through the tabs. Some varieties of acrylic would shatter with that though. Dremel type tool with a cut off wheel maybe?

Maybe a hot knife attachment for a wood burning pencil or soldering iron. Grind it down to a shape that you can use?

If you are making a number of these it might be worth making a custom vacuum fixture with gasketing. It eliminates the need for tabs.
