I've been really working on my figure modeling skills and I just finished this in Aspire....I'm liking what I see...
2" thick maple , 12" x 24" with Min-wax Colonial Maple stain, one coat of Tung Oil.

More to come....

Nice work Michael. I've been wanting to get more involved in this type of modeling myself; probably more landscape-ish kinds of objects than bodies. What software tools are you using for this modeling work? I'm curious about the software tools used to create the types of models available from Design & Make. This image of a cribbage board lid was created using components from D & M. I'd like to be able to create some of my own similar types of components.

Doug,
It's just the "simple" process on drawing the vectors, creating the 3-D shapes and learning how to use the sculpting tool.
I know, it's really not that simple, but these are the bsics steps.

I'm way impressed. I've worked with the sculpting tools in Aspire and they're tricky to control. I've done a some work building basic shapes and manipulating them with those tools but I see a long learning curve ahead of me to to get any place close to the beautiful work you are doing. Which, of course, is how it should be! Well, I guess I have plenty of time for that so no time like the present. Thanks

The carving shadows almost look as if undercut - did you do any hand undercutting?

No undercutting,,,a small bit of sanding and a quick stain.
I think I got really lucky with the wood..,,,,,Next time, i'm not so sure..

I've known Michael for close to 10 years. Every meeting I was at Michael was working on the skills he has today. Not only has he spent probably thousands of hours developing his ability he has done amazing work along the way.
I think there must be some artistic ability there as well. LOL

A few years ago (Nov 2016) he posted a Santa Claus project with a great explanation on how to do it on the forum. The following link should get you there if your interested.

Aspire has gotten a lot easier to work with then the first version I had in 2009. There are other tutorials that will also help with modeling on the vectric support portal.

I decided a long time ago I would rather perfect other skills then devote all the time learning how to model so I buy great models from Design and make for a fraction of the cost it would take to model them even if I could. Michael also has some nice models for sale.

By the way Michael that’s a supper nice model.

I think this is an amazing forum. So much to learn and so little time.
