Z axis programming

Post by fred ruppert »

I want to program a profile in the X-Z direction, going incrementally in the Y direction. Is this possible with VCarve Pro?

Oh BTW...edit tool so it's an odd number of passes(1-3-5-etc.) so it starts at the shallow end...idiosyncrasy of the toolpath(?).
(only needed for the first pass if a number of vectors are arrayed usually, as then it's only cutting stepover between polylines)
I've learned my lesson well. You can't please everyone,so you have to please yourself

Actually I was considering how to make a wave form in the X direction, modifying the Y axis in an up/down motion to create the wave form.

Can be done in Aspire. Another approach is to make this in a CAD or 3d drawing program outside of VCarve Pro and import an stl file.

Or here are other options that may move you in the right direction using standard vectors. Paul Rowntree has some interesting programs and gadgets that might help, depending on what you're trying to do. These include his Standing Wave program and his FlutePlus gadget:

Good luck!

There was a thread about this sort of thing that "mezalick" responded to using a ball bit with a "V-Carve / engraving" toolpath.

It looks like the "Flute Plus" Gadget from Paul Rowntree may work, thanks for the tip

Not sure, but would the moulding toolpath solve your challenge?
wave using moulding toolpath.jpg
A wavy vector to be extruded, and a straight vector as the path to extrude it along.
