On my way to Area 51 in New Mexico

Post by garylmast »

I saw this model on MyMiniFactory and I couldn’t resist it. The problem was, it was meant for 3-D printing, so it was hollow. I used ZBrush to slice and to fill the hollow parts, however their 2020 upgrade has a problem with the size update, so after making some parts twice, I started using Aspire to adjust the size to scale to fit against the other parts.

The size is 20-inches long by 15-inch high. I applied Bronze metal coating. Since my plans were to coat it, I just used a 2 x 10 and a 4 x 8 Douglas fir which gave me better strength than using MDF.

Nice job Gary.

Unless I'm missing something here, I think Area 51 is in Nevada.

Beautiful piece of work. Looks amazing and slightly scary at the same time. How many slices did this take? And did you do 1-sided or 2-sided slices? Thanks...

It was about 24 different slices. Because it was hollow, I had to take it into ZBrush to fill each piece. The problem I had was ZBrush's size update has a bug so after making several parts twice, I started resizing in Aspire to the part I made previously. Everything was a double-sided cut.

When Toys and Trifles posted, that's when I remembered there were Aliens in New Mexico.
