2.5D model help
This is my first go at the clip art end of VCP, I remember a tutorial of how to set the depth of the file but I cannot find it since the new update.
I somehow have this example set to 5/8 deep and think it may be best at 3/8 deep. Can anyone point me to a video of how to achieve this.?
I also would like to leave a material height (.75) post in the center for the clock hands and movement to mount. The bore is 5/16, I am thinking the
post would be 9/16 diam. Is this only possible to create in Aspire? The clock is 10x10, red oak with 1 coat of watco oil. Lacquer to follow.
Thanks, Robert

Re: 2.5D model help
First make sure you have a Zero Plane in your components list.
To set the height of the model in the material go to the Material Setup in the Toolpaths tab, there you set the Model Position in Material.
To leave a 9/16" dia material thick post in the middle of the clock, draw a 9/16" dia circle vector then make sure to select the circle vector along with any other limit boundary vectors when creating the Roughing/Finishing toolpaths.
Hope that all make sense....

Re: 2.5D model help
Thank you John,
I did exactly what you said but I have no idea what to look for. I added the 9/16 post and selected it along with the zero plane.
Nothing shows up in the preview. I was able to adjust the model height within the wood block, thanks for that help. Still perplexed
on how to achieve adding the post. Is there a video that would help?
Thanks, Robert

Maybe I'm miss understanding your question, it's happened before
Are looking for something like this?

Re: 2.5D model help
If I am understanding correctly then you don't actaully create a post as such. If you draw the circle as john suggests & select that as part of your machining boundary then that part of the wood stock will mot be machined when the 3D rough & finish toolpaths are ran leaving the post in the middle of the clock face. You would need to run the finish toolpath to see the post

What Martin said
Also if you want to use a Boundary Offset in your Roughing/Finishing toolpath then you need to make the circle larger by the value specified in the Boundary Offset.

Re: 2.5D model help
Here's the setup I used on the Finishing toolpath.
Notice the two boundary vectors selected.
The inner circle is the 5/16" hole
The next circle is the 9/16" pin
And the selected outer circle is offset by the value set in the Boundary Offset in the Finishing toolpath.

Thanks Martin and John,
I feel like an idiot. This could not be more simple. I am doing exactly what both of you have been explaining and still no post.
I was incorrect, I am running VCP version 9.5

Robert,
If that's the rooster from the Clipart, post the VCP file so someone can take a look at what's going on....
If the file is too large post it to Dropbox and post the link....

Re: 2.5D model help
Be sure to select both the model boundary and the outer most inner circle (Boundary circle) in both ROUGHING and FINISHING toolpaths. If you don't select both vectors in roughing toolpath there will not be any material for the finishing pass to carve around for the post.
Note the Post land in center of rooster for clock hands post
Note: You must also adjust model in the material to be able to leave enough material on the surface of model by adjusting the model in the material in the material setup.
In this example Gap above model 0.0013 Model thickness .5297 in .75 material

I really appreciate all this help.
Not sure if this works yet as I just opened the Dropbox account.

John,
It works for me. Top right corner there is (open with), click on that and wait for the download prompt.
