Memorial Flag Case

Post by dwilli9013 »

Was finally able to deliver the memorial flag case to my mother in law this past weekend. Was created with many fine memories of the father in law for which it was created.

Material: Maple
Finish: Cherry stain. Several coats of hand polished poly. Light 220 sand between coats.
All joints spline together with a cleat on the back to either hang or place the case on a shelf.
Shell casings were the actual shells from the 21 gun salute at his funeral. All shells were polished out cut down and inlaid into the 3 boarders.
Flag was also from the burial ceremony.
Text on sides was cut on the cnc with a 20deg v-bit and sprayed with Marsh spray ink prior to finishing.
This was a very fitting tribute for a fine man that always put family, freedom and love into everything he did.
My mother in law actually said she felt an overwhelming sense of peace when I gave it to her. Certainly makes ones heart smile.
Thanks for looking.

That's a very nice flag case and the 21 cartridge salute idea makes it that much more impressive Dwayne. Wish I had thought of that.

I had the privilege of making one of these back in 2012 for a friend who gave it to another friend of his who had earned three Purple Heart medals in Vietnam.

Thank for the comment. I really like the split concept you used on that one. I had thought about inlaying his ribbons op the opposite side but was worried about the contrast.
