Carving
I was asked by a friend if I could carve this picture of a wing. I have looked at it for a week now and still don't know where to start. Any suggestions?

Re: Carving
I used to love to do tracing of logos when I had a sign business, very relaxing for me. And it is a nice logo- what is QB? Looks similar to a Bentley logo.

Re: Carving
Really depends what you mean by carve it, if you mean a 3D carving then you don't have the tools in vcarve to create the 3D model so would need some other software to create a model you could then import into vcarve.
If you mean a vcare of the Badge then as GeneMpls has already said you would need to draw the vectors for it, probably won't get very good vectors with an auto trace. If you could find a black & white image on the internet that might give you a chance of auto tracing but personally I would draw that from scratch
Actually looking at it again you might well be able to get a pretty close 3D carving in vcarve, the centre is just a plaque shape which can be done with pocket toolpathing & guessing you would be able to find a model of a wing that would be close enough if not exact

It might help to look at it as individual shapes instead of a complete logo.I have looked at it for a week now and still don't know where to start. Any suggestions?
I see a lot of modified rectangles, circles and ellipses.
I don't know how much node editing you have done previously but that looks like and opportunity to sharpen your skills at it.
Very cool logo BTW

Re: Carving
EDIT --- I did make use of a shield from the clipart to save some time in tracing. If need be the original shield can be traced in the clipart shield place.
Size - 11.1 Wide by 3.1 Height
Pocketed to a pocket depth of .05 around the 'QB' and V-Carve with 60 degree v-bit all the others areas to a depth of .015"
Here is my sample of the carving in V-Carve Pro 9.518

]Thanks to all for your replies.
I think it is an Air Force Logo. They are having a reunion next month and he would like to hang it then.
Sharkcutup I wish I had your talent, it is amazing what you did in just a few hours.
As you can see this is what I cane up with.
Am I on the right track?

Not really You will spend so much time trying to clean the vectors up after that auto trace it would be far quicker to draw it from scratch.wooddogg601 wrote:]Thanks to all for your replies.

Personally I don't think it is a talent, anyone can learn to use the drawing tools, you just need to be prepared to put the time in practicing
Start off with simple designs & progress as you get better.

Re: Carving
Another thing to remember when you're doing a symmetrical project like this.
You only have to draw or develop one of the wings.
When you're satisfied with the results, all you have to do is mirror it to the other side of the shield.
Just my $.02
