Projecting Text on 3D model

Post by jay pieper »

I am trying to project text on the 3d model of the book in my clipart
I have gone through the tutorial on this subject many times
when I go to toolpath the text I get an error for numerous open vectors.
I am wondering if I need to use certain text for this to work. I have no
problems with setting up the disrorted text to follow my 3d model.
When I go to tool path this the depth are set to .0 and .0 and only check
th project to model and calculate this is when i recieve the open vectors
message. Any help with this would be greatly apppreciated.

Hi Jay,

Seems all you need to do is find the open vectors and close them. If the “text” vectors are Grouped, then Ungroup them first, so you can use the Join tools appropriately and where required.

You're not using a Single Line font by any chance are you?
That would be all open vectors, and needs to be done with Profile toolpath(ON the line), with depth determined by the bit and the appearance you're looking for.

I've learned my lesson well. You can't please everyone,so you have to please yourself

Hi Scott and Michael
I ended up using the free style script to be able to get it to work with the other fonts I
was not able to get the text to join with no open vectors for some reason. I ungrouped
the text and tried to join the open vectors but was unable to do this. So I went with the
different font style.

Scott I used a vcarve toolpath with a 60 degree v bit for this and a single line for the
font type. I followed the tutorials for both drawing, and for tool paths. I was unaware of
the use of the profile tool path to machine but makes perfect sense. Still baffled why there
is a problem joining vectors. I know I am doing something wrong that is really simple will keep
playing with it.

Thank You Scott and Michael for Your Help

You won't be able to join the open vectors in a single line font. Imagine a T, it's two open vectors and you can only join vectors at end points not in the middle. Single line fonts have to be machined as Scott says. If you want to v-carve text then you have to use closed vectors which means using the TrueType not Single Line fonts.
