Unwanted tool path.

Post by helensdad »

Unwanted toolpath.jpg
Hi, I am trying to set up to cut out the part in the picture from aluminium but for some reason it wants to join the two holes together, which I don't want. How can I stop it from doing this?

Please, will you post your actual file so we can help you troubleshoot?

OK, I actually deleted it, I am however having trouble still. I want to cut outside the line, but it says there are 12 unsuitable vectors. I will post what I have done. IThis is the first file I have tried to create myself...

You just needed to Join those vectors.... lots of different ways, but Edit tab..select Open Vectors....Deselecting that bottom Polyline by holding Shift down..and then Joining them is good for Starters:) OH the poor cat:)

What went wrong?
What went wrong?
I got the tool paths sorted out but something went wrong when I tried to cut it. It cut the two mounting holes, nearly all the way through, then flew off to one side and proceeded to cut outside my piece of aluminium. When I ran the simulation in Cut2D it worked great. My machine did make a knocking sound before it developed a mind of it's own so maybe some obstruction caused it to miss a load of steps or something....

Post the file with toolpaths again, so somebody with a light machine can check speeds/pass depths and such?
"Knocking" sound, always seems to me like a Hard Stop was hit....It Always means steps will be lost! Virtually always the toolpath should be stopped by you immediately!!

I'm with Scott, it would help to see the file. From the picture it looks like you're using a v-bit. Also you machine isn't very ridge for cutting aluminum, loss of steps is a big possibility.

Did you get X0 Y0 set to the same place as in the software?

Work zero was set before starting machine. I was taking 0.25 mm passes, aborted before pass had finished, using 1/8" endmill. I will post file tomorrow.... Many thanks all!

Your pass depth is set to 1mm not 0.25mm and, although I'm no expert on those type of machines, your feedrate is a lot higher than I've seen other people recommend especially at 1mm pass depth.
