Pool Table

Post by garylmast »

This is still a work in progress: I decided to build a 7-foot pool table to fit in area in my basement.
Started with the legs and frame, with designs from Clip Art from Aspire. I needed to build the slate top, so I used melamine board, and cut three sections, which included the pockets cutouts and necessary holes. I used a high strength concrete mix, the type they use for concrete countertops. To make sure each section was the same and to avoid shims, I made an adapter on my lathe to attached a diamond wheel to the CNC machine. I ended up shaving about 6mm, mostly around the outside edges. Once I rotated the sections to get the smooth surface, I screwed the concrete to the melamine so I can attach it to the frame and also have something to staple the fabric to. I then cut all the rails and attached the pockets. Now I need to take everything apart, stain it, then pack it downstairs to the basement, where I will add the rubber bumpers and stretch the fabric. As I'm packing the concrete sections, I need to remind my brain that I'm not 20-years old anymore.

Thanks everyone for the compliments. I managed to pack the heavy sucker downstairs without to much damage to my body. Once I pep the seams and put the fabric on, I'll post the finished results.

Finally got everything set and applied the fabric. Working with the fabric, especially over the rails is why I let my wife wrap the Christmas presents.   But at least it's done.

This project, in my opinion, is over the top awesome. I can never understand why some projects get many responses and others not so much. When I first saw this pool table I thought this post would light up the forum like a Times Square Christmas tree. Oh well, shows what I know.

I've looked at this a few times... and for the first time I realized that you machined the concrete?! Impressive!!
