2016 User Group - Live Stream Demonstration

Post by JamesB »

Hello All,

We're going to attempt a live stream demonstration of one of the User Group tutorials to see if this is a feasible method for future online demonstrations. The particular demo we're going to show is the print block drawing and toolpathing, this is one of the tool-making examples I ran through at the meeting, an image of which you can see below.

This live demo is scheduled for 5pm UK time on Tuesday October 18th (tomorrow as I write this).

You can access the live-stream (all being well) through YouTube using the following link: - it has a countdown built in so I remember when to start :)

Hopefully this will just work as intended and as we have tested but please be patient if we encounter any technical hitches.

Is this does work well then we'll look at offering more of the User Group content through YouTube too.

Cheers,
James

That will be wonderful!!
If I'm figuring the time difference 5PM in the UK will be 9AM in Arizona.

best of luck with it James, something I might not be able to make at that sort of time with no internet at the workshop but will definitely try. Are you limited with numbers for this ? I know some webinars are.

Theoretically there is no limit on how many people can watch, as its a live-stream through YouTube rather than something where we're specifically inviting a number of people. How well it works remains to be seen, we tested it though and it seemed to be OK, so we'll see how we get on. The demo today should be no more than 20-25 minutes. A recording of it should also become available subsequently on our YouTube channel.

Cheers,
James

Well done James, worked perfectly from this end. Learned more about using layers, so thank you. Looking forward to more.

The Live Stream worked perfectly at my end. I experimented with different viewing resolutions, and as expected, the 1080p HD setting and viewing at Full Screen was the best choice.

I also watched the stream on my iphone. It worked perfectly as well, but the phone screen isn't really suitable for seeing small screen items (software menus, etc.). The live Chat screen was not accessible during the streaming on my iphone - or at least I didn't see any way to access it without pausing the video.

Thanks Hermie, Paul, Michael, I appreciate the feedback and would welcome any other viewers letting me know how the experience was at their end - good or bad (I can't do anything about my accent though).

For me it was surreal as I was using the PC we normally record videos on - it was only as I started I realised I could not stop and re-do anything but had to keep going as if there was a live audience like the User Group. I think the video should appear in our YouTube channel but am not sure how long that takes. I'll let everyone know once its there. If this looks like a success we'll schedule some of the other presentations for broadcast too.

Cheers,
James

In response to Michael - we are broadcasting in 1080 HD so that would probably look best. I'm glad the sound/picture was clear.

Cheers,
James

Thanks James, it worked perfectly here in Arizona.

I've always enjoyed the tutorials. They have been hands down the best way for me to learn the software.

I did miss your sense of humor and the ability to see you interacting like we get at the user meetings.
