3D printing test - Triskel designed with Aspire

Hi,

I just bought a very economical personal FDM 3D printer, just to get an idea of what these little toys are able (I am familiar with professional 3D printing, which is another world).

I was happily surprised by the result.

I made a quick test with a part I designed in a few clicks with Aspire. Imported a triskel (IIRC, it was the wikipedia free one), vectorized it, created a triangular shape of it and added 2 circles with a 2 rail sweep.

I then triangulated the model and exported it as a closed stl file which was printed using Cura, without any glitch.

How long did it take to print?

Well, I don't know exactly as I didn't check. The machine printed while I was working. I'd say between 1 and 2 hours.

I don't remember the printing resolution nor the filling factor which are major parameters for the printing time.

And this printer is probably slow compared to more evolved models.

For a filled model with 0.15mm slices, Cura says 1H27mn. Didn't check if the time evaluations are good or not.

Question - I notice the print looks slightly different on each of the ends of the curls as compared to your model screenshot. Do you know what may have caused that?

Yes, the lightning and the bad quality of the photo, made with a smartphone, not with an actual camera.

The part looks good. At least as good as a FDM part can be on a low-end machine.
