Just Another Breadbox

Post by Dank »

Hello! It's been a long time since I posted anything but have been actively using Vectric Aspire for many years and versions. I retired a year ago from my professional work and now have more time to enjoy my workshop. I use Aspire very heavily to micro machine wax for 3D carving for lost wax carving. Many jewelry pendants and other items. I'll post that soon.

Here is a popular larger project (as big as a breadbox) which is of course, a breadbox. Just add me to the list of makers.

Thanks for the shout-out mtylerfl

I mentioned I would post about my other projects using Aspire for carving wax. I have gathered up some of my blog posts at my own sites. Here are the links:

http://workshop.ramblindan.org/jla/meta ... le-crossed
http://dimensionalart.org/art/index.php ... day-s-work
http://dimensionalart.org/art/index.php ... og-pendant

These were all created in Vectric Aspire. I have two Taig CNC micro mills that I used for creating jewelry designs in wax for lost wax casting. These projects demonstrate the accuracy of the Aspire tool path files and the quality of the Taig micro mills. I have created and run files that contain over a half million lines of code. The carving bits are tapered ball end mills with a tip diameter as small as 0.003". Yep, three thousandths. Most runs are with 0.005" Stepover is 20% so each pass cuts 0.001" of wax. Run time have been as high as 5 continuous hours.

Of course I use much larger ball and end mills when the design is less detailed.

Here is a link to a short video of my 4 axis mill cutting a pendant wax. The first machine in the video as very quick zoom by view of my homemade gantry machine using a Taig spindle set-up. That is the machine that carved the breadbox.

There are a lot of links here. Sorry for that. It is easier than rewriting the stories. I hope this helps expand the knowledge of the ability and types of projects that Vectric Aspire is being used. I love how fast I can build a new model.
