Hi there,
I am attempting to create a profile toolpath from the vectors of these three separate line drawings (attached). I have tried to join all of the open vectors by the following methods:
-increasing the tolerance in the join vectors window
-extending lines past eachother and trimming
-using the join/closed vectors with a straight line tool
- taking the drawing into Corel Draw and combining the vectors
- taking the drawing into Corel Draw and welding the vectors
- taking the drawing into Corel Draw and extending and trimming the vectors.
Nothing seems to work. Is there a way to join these vectors? It seems like the dolphins sould be simple, but nothing seems to stick. Even if it looks solid in Corel, I bring it back into Aspire as a pdf and the vectors are still open.

The front dolphin and the rear dolphin's tail are a single vector.
If you try to node-edit them you will see that the start of the combination is at the dolphin/fin crossing; it goes over the dolphin's head around its own tail, then does a crazy loop to make the other dolphin's tail. In the attached image I have shifted the start and end points to show the problem.
What do you want it to look like? What do you want to join ? Closed vectors shouldn't cross over or intersect themselves.

Then end goal is to put these symbols on a sign as just .25" deep profile cuts with a V bit.
the beachball is challenging because I can't get the arcs to join with the small sphere at the top, and the seahorse is just a mess.

any ideas how I could join the other half of the back dolphin to the front dolphin?

Perhaps if you separated the images to separate layers it would be easier to work on them. Then again, I am not sure what you are trying to do. If the dolphins are carved to the same depth, the borderline between them will disappear. You could carve them to different depths, or leave a border line between them. It is up to you as the designer.

Zombo, why are you trying to join the vectors? They don't need to be closed for a profile toolpath, only for a vcarve toolpath. If I'm understanding what you want to do correctly.

Are you going to profile ON the vector at a fixed depth with a V-bit? If so then the vectors don't need to be joined/closed.Then end goal is to put these symbols on a sign as just .25" deep profile cuts with a V bit.

I don't know how you did that! I am using a profile path, but when I calculate, it says there are 80 open vectors that are being ignored, and it only tool paths 7 vectors!

I'm still curious though...if I wanted to do a vcarve path if there would be any way to join the vectors. But for now, problem solved.

In order to do a Vcarve toolpath you will need either a single closed or 2 closed vectors with the carving done between them. The distance between the vectors at a given point and the vbit angle will determine the depth of the carve at that point.
