Momma Bear Rules...

Post by KeithW »

A request from my grand daughter for her Mom/(my daughter) for Christmas.

Walnut, carved with 1/8 inch end mill and then painted letters, with rattle can lacquer. About 10 x 4

With raised lettering, it may be easier to paint the piece before carving.

I thought about that but would have had to mask the whole thing (except where I wanted the lettering) to avoid a lot of unwanted sanding.

For the paint, I found a 'paint pen' at Micheal's that worked pretty slick. No runs or drips and easy to do multiple coats pretty easy.

I missed the unpainted border. You don't have to mask anywhere that you will be removing material, such as all around the letters. I go the lazy way and end up with the border painted, too. (My example is not as well done as yours.)
