Gumball Machine

Post by sircarveabit »

Here is a gumball machine that I made, well okay, so I used peanut M & M's because I like them better. Anyway, this was a fun project to make and by only dispensing one M & M at a time, I eat them slower.

If you add a coin slot then you'll eat them even slower. :D

What does the design of the dispenser mechanism look like?

Randall, you do have a point on the coin slot on eating them slower. Good one.

As far as the design goes for the inside, I started out with a pattern I downloaded from the Scroll Bench website, which was round shape in design, but I wanted a square shape design instead so I modified mine as such. I also carved out some additional wood that wasn't needed for the structure so I could reduce the weight just a bit. I also had to make my holes a little smaller for when there were two small M & M's trying to come out at the same time and more or less stopped the lever from turning. Also, I used a Jiff peanut butter jar for the plastic container on top. (Yea, I'm now eating a lot of peanut butter).

Here is the url on where I downloaded it.

They are great for storage.
Engrave them with the content and use them for spices in the kitchen.
Screw the lids to the underside of your wall cabinets and you can always find the one you want.

Here is my version. I am particularly intrigued by the release mechanism, but there is a problem with this design...the peanut m and m's keep disappearing... :D

This one was made of scraps that were lying about...mahogany, maple, purple heart and sapele. I am not happy about my finishing job; I think I was too anxious to try it out. There may be another one coming, but of a simpler design.

Doesn't look too bad. I did end up making another one but needed a little more pizazz to it.

Hi Brian,

I am not comfortable distributing someone else's design. I just went to the reference posted above and vector traced the pdf's. There were only two parts that needed any modeling, and that was fairly simple.

On the other hand, I have designed a different version of a candy dispenser, and I will post the files for that in the next day or two. Perhaps that will work for you.
