PROJECT ALIGATOR FOR A ZOO

Post by Gerry Perrault »

I am fortunate to do some signs for a zoo in my community.Recently they asked me to do a sign 14' by 36",
with an aligator coming out of the sign. Here are the steps i went over to proceed.
First i went on ''Tubo squid'' to get a model, wich I paid $59.00.
Then open it on Aspire to get it in the right position, wich was on the side. Then i figured the size i was needing
and proceed with the slicing. I used EPS Foam 2'' i did a right and a left part, with 4 plates of 48''x 96''x2''
When i use my CNC, i always have the routine of writing down the line number and the time at almost every 15 minutes,
on a piece of paper so if something happens i can always stop the work in progress and start later on, with lhe line start from here
from the processor. After the aligator was done, i sprayed some urethane with my special gun and tubes ( VFI 2538) from
Volatile free. Then made some teeth and nails with Abracadabra Smooth & Sculpt resin. Then it was primed.
As for the back ground and the letters i have used 2 x 1.5'' sign foam cut like old wood.
Then to solidify everything i have used 4 sheets of 5/8'' plywood cut the same way as the sign,by overlapping the joints.
As for the finish paint some artist from the zoo did the painting.
It was a fun job to do and wish you all to have some fun job to do,so you have some challenge to do it. Gerry
