trying to find answers

Post by Custom carving »

I just recently purchased Farm fresh 1. I love the rustic sign but I was wondering what I can do to reduce carving time.
here are some of the questions I have:
how can you find out how deep the face of the sign is so you know where to se the depth of the Vcarve text. had this same problem with In the magical garden
I have ben trying to find a way to make it 2 sided but the drawing I made shows the depth of my v carve text deeper than 1/2 the total.
I can't remember how to make the outline of a 3d sign the outline so I can cut it to the shape of the sign
what is a good tutorial for modeling? (need lots of learning in this area )

thanks in advance

Dennis

Hello Dennis...

Let me see if I can give you a hand...
I love the rustic sign but I was wondering what I can do to reduce carving time
My goto answer for that is: if there are large flat areas use the pocket toolpath with a large endmill to cut those areas. Simply draw a vector around them and use that vector to isolate your tooling.

Also, you can recreate that sign using a combination of pockets and the moulding toolpath. In the end that would be much faster and give you a nicer looking finish on the moulding parts of the sign.
how can you find out how deep the face of the sign is so you know where to see the depth of the Vcarve text. had this same problem with In the magical garden
If you are going to use the 3D component from the project you can use the "Project Tooling Onto 3D Model" option at the bottom of the VCarve toolpath form.
I can't remember how to make the outline of a 3d sign the outline so I can cut it to the shape of the sign
Select the component in the 2D view and then goto the Modeling tab. You will see an icon that looks like an arrow with a blue line around it - "Create vector boundary around selected component". That is the one. If the boundary of the layout is more than one component... have them all selected before clicking the icon.
what is a good tutorial for modeling?
Have a look here - https://www.vectric.com/support/tutoria ... h=Modeling

Hope that helps...

Please let me know.

ran into a problem with carving the text. it just barely touches the wood on the first pass and does not carve the letters properly what did I do wrong? I've tried to attach the file ...to big....zipped the file....too big....tried to attach just the tap file well you know how that went. i would be pulling out my hair if I had any

Can I delete some of the crv file to make it smaller?

Your wood has to be FLAT. If you don't have something like a drum sander, then make a prepass with your surfacing bit to make sure it is flat. Scribble on the surface of the board with a pencil. Cover all the edges, etc. After flatten, all pencil marks should be gone. You can do this several times with minimal wood removal each time. Just enough to remove the pencil marks. Re-set you Z again after you flatten, then process as normal. I don't make the flattening pass part of the new job, I run it as a separate job. That way you job doesn't change.

I've also tried to send the file in one drive but was unsuccessful. How do you share a one drive file to this forum? do you have to set it up in one drive?

sorry it took so long to try and solve this problem. My wife had a serious health condition on the 8th and we just got her back home on friday. One drive still frustrates me. I have tried to post things and followed the instructions to a tee and it still wont let me add people. I tried to send the file to support and got no response. I must have one drive set up improperly. i will work on that.

the rustic sign shows that it is .4544 deep. could I set the tool path to start carving at that depth and cut .15 deeper to resolve this issue? I have 4 other projects I need to carve and a lot to catch up with PLEASE HELP!!!!

Hello Custom carving.

>>I tried to send the file to support and got no response.

The last email that we received from you in support was dated December 1st 2020.
My colleague Adam replied to that support ticket.
(You replied to his reply).

If you sent a further email since that date, I am afraid that we never received it.

If you would care to try again, one of my colleagues will get back to you.

Cheers,

Mark.
