Stupid Question?
Is PhotoVCarve a separate purchase if you own Aspire?

Re: Stupid Question?
There is a PhotoVcarve in both Aspire and as a separate product. They are not the same. You can download a free trial of both and try them.

Re: Stupid Question?
Thank you. I purchased the software and have loaded an image and gone thru the setup. I have an Avid Benchtop Pro CNC.
I do not see my CNC in the Post Processor, not sure how to proceed?
I've attached a screen shot of the PP I use in Aspire
Thx

Re: Stupid Question?
I found my Photo V Carve program files here along with the original Post Processors. No AVID on my list. Given this software is pretty old without updates you probably have to ask for help from the machine or Vectric folks.

Re: Stupid Question?
I save my files from the photo Vcarve app then open them in Aspire or Vcarve to do the tooling with the correct PP. One extra step but easy enough.

Re: Stupid Question?
Scott, I am currently playing with PhotoVcarve (trial) to see if it will work for my needs. I have Vcarve and the photovcarve option isn't what I am looking for... But when you say you save the photovcarve files and do the toolpaths in apsire or vcarve; what are you actually doing here? On the trial version, after the watermark, the only option of saving is the actual toolpath. Is that what you are doing?scotttarnor wrote: ↑Sat Nov 12, 2022 5:04 amI save my files from the photo Vcarve app then open them in Aspire or Vcarve to do the tooling with the correct PP. Another question that maybe someone can assist and I apologize to the OP, don't mean to take over your thread... I am trying to achieve photo carving such as these pet pictures/carving with terrible results of a German Shepard. https://www.etsy.com/listing/603582680/ ... iaEALw_wcB Perhaps Photovcarve can't do this, but all I am getting is a bunch of chunks out of wood that is barely recognizable. Any advice?

Re: Stupid Question?
I am not at my computer right now so I can not tell you the format I save the file in in the Photo VCarve app but I then import that file into Aspire and create the g code to run it.
A few examples of my results

Re: Stupid Question?
So! It sounds like Photo V Carve does a better job than Aspire?
Can anyone explain this please.
Thanks.
Jim

Re: Stupid Question?
Thank you Adrian. I thought it was strange that the cheaper program was better.

Re: Stupid Question?
PVC does allow the selection of TBN bits and the Aspire toolpath does not.

Re: Stupid Question?
That's done for lithopanes primarily though and Aspire can do that using the modelling toolpaths direct from a photo whereas VCarve can't directly from a photo.scotttarnor wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2023 6:01 pmPVC does allow the selection of TBN bits and the Aspire toolpath does not.
If the ballnose is being used for a non-lithopane then Aspire can do that with stepover settings for the tool and setting a raster angle in the 3D toolpaths.
