After three weeks of trial and error
These are not yet clear coated but I think they are about as good as I can get them. Anyone have any tips on how to dial them in better?

One way is to alter the tonal range of the source image. This is the sort of thing that needs to be done with laser engraving.

Are you using a scraper blade as part of your process? That gives you the ability to lighten certain areas.

Cabinet scraper.
Card scraper.
You can also use a single edge razor blade.

Thank you for the feedback. So instead of sanding the carving after staining you simply use the scraper? I’ve tried various things over the past few weeks and look forwarded to trying this. I presume light pressure and following the carving lines correct?

Start that way and then try varying the direction of the scraping pattern.I presume light pressure and following the carving lines correct?
Start out on some of your "failed" photoVcarves. I think you will find the scrapers give you far more control compared to sanding.

What type of bit did you use in order to carve into the acrylic for the pelican pic?
