Tapered ballnose for photocarve?

Post by Muskieman »

Hi everyone, I was making a desk sign with an image and a 15 degree bit then it occurred to me that a tapered ballnose bit might work even better. I set it up in desktop but you cannot select a tapered ballnose for photocarve any ideas why it is not compatible?

You can only use V-Bits.

I used= TBN for all my lithos, just set them as ballnose, don't think the tapered part has a big effect in results, just make sure you dial in the proper radius

You can only use V-Bits.
To clarify; in the stand alone PhotoVCarve software one can select Ballnose endmills.

My remark was based on the fact that this was posted in the PhotoVCarve section and not in the VCarve Desktop section which may lead to confusion.

PhotoVCarve doesn't support tapered ballnoses. It's an older program that pre-dates that type of tool being added to the other products.

With the Photo V-Carve toolpath in VCarve and Aspire you can't use straight ballnoses or tapered ballnoses.

Which program do you have? You've posted in the PhotoVCarve section but I'm guessing you really have VCarve or Aspire?

If you have PhotoVCarve then enter is as a normal ball nose.

For the other programs a v-bit is your only choice. You can't enter the parameters of a ballnose into a v-bit exactly so the preview would never match the actual results so you would need to experiment with the actual outcome when carving and tweak from there.
