Litho in colored Corian

Post by IYWD »

Has anyone tried cutting a lithophane in colored Corian? If so, does the photo show up ok? I was given a couple of pieces of blue and wondered if it was even worth trying to do a litho with it or if it would be way too dark for the photo to show up well. :?:

Litho in Blue Corian

IYWD.

The only way you are going to illuminate your Blue Corian Litho is, after cutting it, you will need to set off a small "H-Bomb" behind it!! hehe.

 That's kind of what I figured. I had thought of trying to cut a underwater photo of fish, that a friend that goes diving a lot took, (thinking maybe the blue would make it look like ocean water), but I was afraid the fish may not show up. Oh well, just a thought. Guess I'll just make a cutting board out of it or something.
Thanks for the input.

How about trying it as an inlay. Blue being the water (cut thin) and find some light colored Corion for the fish? Just a thought.

That may be way too involved for my taste. The photo has a bunch of plants, etc. around the fish. The time it would take to inlay all of it... But it is a thought. :)

color and corrian

Check out this web site! http://www.babbart.com/index.html
Becki Babb carves in corrian and has several examples of back lighting. She also has some that are painted on the back so the color shows through. Check out the bath tub in her sample pages.....Flat on the front, but when lit from behind, an entire sea scape.

DrPid,

Thanks for the link, very cool stuff.

Now, does anyone out there know what kind of paint would work well on Corian?

The design is Relief Carved, Painted and Filled in a Clear Acrylic.
Food safe but only as durable as a painted surface. Perhaps good for display, but not the front of a cutting board.
