Creating a relief model from a photo

Post by WoodsmanL56 »

Hello, I'm trying to find a tutorial on, How to make a Detailed 3D Relief Model of a Child's Photo for carving with the CNC.

Hoping that someone can point me in the right direction.

Thank You

You’ll need Aspire to do that. See this post for making a “Santa Claus” from an image by Michael M. to see what you’re up against.

I can't tell if you have PhotoVCarve or are trying to use a photovcarve tool path in VCarve? If you have the PVC program, you can make a reasonable approximation of a relief model, especially if your photo has good contrast. Using techniques similar to making a lithophane, you can do the same thing in wood and your eyes will process it as being full 3D. However, you won't be able to edit/model areas of the output such as making a cheek fuller/deeper.
