7 Watt Laser Preview

Post by Aintright »

I'm having problems seeing My burn on the 3D view I have even adjusted My burn rate up to 15,000 but still nothing can Anyone help Me with this issue please?

Do you have your tool path preview resolution set to setting higher than standard? If not try setting it higher.

I found it easier to change the number of passes or the color of the material. Also, adjusting the 3D angle of view will make it more visible.

Vectric support essentially admitted that they just threw the laser toolpathing tools together from some old stuff they used to use. You can’t even use the layer selection features that profile toolpaths get to use.

I think it’s high time the laser tools get some love from Vectric! I’m tired of waiting for the same features we have with other tools (and software.)

I'm currently getting a response from Vectric about the simulations. Stand by for news! :D

Re: Response from Vectric on Laser Preview

Post by Tex_Lawrence »

Here's my question and some verbatim from Vectric Support (which are always supportive! :D )

Feb 10, 2022, 21:31 GMT+1

In the Tool Database for a Laser Tool, the following seems to be true:

"Max. Power" - no function that I can see other than for notes.

"Kerf" - no function other than for simulation line thickness.

"No. Passes" - seems to only be the default to load a new laser toolpath field.

"Power" - seems to only be the default to load a new laser toolpath field.

"Move Speed" - seems to only be the default to load a new laser toolpath field.

"Maximum Burn Rate" - no function other than for simulation kerf visibility dependent on "Move Speed."

Can you confirm these conclusions based on the last two posts from Charlotte and David?

------------------------------

First Response from Vectric: Feb 10, 2022, 14:02 GMT+1

So all of the Tool Database fields for the laser will have some impact on the toolpath generated, with the exception of the "Maximum Burn Rate" which we just use to impact the intensity of the toolpath preview example we show. This allows a user to run a burn on their laser, then return to that project and increase/decrease the Max burn Rate value until the preview matches the result they got on their machine.

This allows you to customise how your preview appears with each material you set it up for, so that future projects you can see a more accurate preview result in the software right away.

The Power is being used, in the S command.
Your Post Processor is setup to use the scaling of 0 being 0% power up to 1000 being 100% power, which is the usual scaling range in a GRBL 1.1 controller.
So your 80% is output as S800 and the controller should read that and know to run the laser at 80% of max power.
We are just working to the standard setup expected in GRBL 1.1 for this scaling though.

-------------------------

Second Clarification from Vectric: Feb 15, 2022, 16:50 GMT+1

On the whole we can confirm these conclusions about the parameters within the tool database
for laser tools with one exception;

Kerf - As well as influencing simulation line thickness, this does have an actual Impact on the line spacings in laser picture.
The Maximum and minimum line spacing available is based on this kerf value

The rest of the parameters do not transfer directly through to the output in any way but the laser toolpath strategy forms will
auto populate from this for the power, move speed and No. of passes values which are included in the output.

The ability to save different 'preset' laser tool settings within the database is useful if you are frequently switching between different
material types and situations which call for specific settings that can be saved and quickly applied. If however you are mostly
keeping the same settings for your projects then this may be less relevant to you.

Check the kerf width in the laser set up.

Edit your g code file , change S1000 to S100 , it works on my cnc Mach 4 v latest .
