Easy Drawer Joint Maker

Post by jimandi5000 »

Hi All,

I am being asked to make a Gadget for a friend. He sent me some CAD drawings for a gadget to make locking joint like these.

Anyone do these types of joints?

Yes (in reply to your question - but presume your inquiry is more than that) - others on this forum extensively and expertly, (and me too, amateur). Posted on this forum and elsewhere on the internet you may be interested in and find helpful Jochan Gross' work: Digital Wood Joints.

Great! I will post the gadget as soon as I get it working.

I am going to bang out these that he sent me but if anyone would like to have something other than these, post a drawing of the joint and I will try to add it.

:D
Thanks,
Jim

Yes, I developed something similar for my office desk. It's good to know that others are solving the same problems with such ingenious joints. Mine are trivially simple, but the Winterdienst site is inspiring! It may become a "winter task" for me as well. Here's my joint and the desk in which I used it.

Very nice joints there... I do see a issue in the picture of your desk setting in your shop... Where is the sawdust? That is the cleanest shop floor I have ever seen. :D

Thanks jfederer

OK, so I have a bit of OCD when it comes to keeping things clean. In addition to the Oneida V-System collector, I have a Shop Vac, a Festool vac, and a Makita hand-held. They all get used. If anyone ever asks "what's the most-used tool in your shop?" the answer will be "My dust control system." I blame my uncle, who owned an aluminum casting/finishing shop. The last 15 minutes of every day were dedicated to making the place spotless. You could almost eat off that floor too!

Thanks Lesa! Here it is in the planned location. I made it to fit. This is the "office" part of my shop.
