Re: Easy Cabinet Maker

SOOOOO I downloaded the zip file above and changed it to the name per the instructions, but its not being recognized by v carve as a valid gadget type. I downloaded "EasyCabinetBaseVer15.1.zip" and changed it to "EasyCabinetMakerVer15.1.vgadget". When I open it the folder contains two configuration settings and several XULA files. That's it. When I go to the install gadget menu in vcarve, there's nothing there. Could someone help??? I even tried extracting the zip file first and then changing it to "EasyCabinetMakerVer15.1.vgadget" and I can't get it to install.

See this link. Windows is renaming it to "EasyCabinetBaseVer15.1.vgadget.zip"

Please Jim and Sharkey add that to the instructions.

Thank You Stephen

Hello Everyone Be sure that when you download Any "EASY" Gadget you make sure that your File Explorer is displaying the .xxx (an extension) after the file name. This can be found on the "View" TAB at the Show/Hide Location see Image Below what is circled in red.

I will try to remember to add this to future update instructions.

I make it a point not to have a "." anywhere in a file name. I always use an underscore. Makes fewer problems.

If it’s the problem I think it is (Windows default hiding of know file extensions by default) then the presence of a period within the file name is not a factor. If the file name was filename.zip it would have renamed to filename.vgadget, zip just the same.

Having said that I also try to avoid periods in filenames preferring “_” instead.

I don't understand why this is so hard. It's not working. I click the link that says "EasyCabinetBaseVer15.0.zip", it downloads to my downloads folder. I change the file from "EasyCabinetBaseVer15.0.zip" to "EasyCabinetMakerVer15.0.vgadget" like it says in the instructions. Then I open Vcarve, go to install gadgets, I double click the folder that says "EasyCabinetMakerVer15.0.vgadget" and it opens. There is nothing in there........

It is hard because of Microsoft, see this post on renaming the file. viewtopic.php?p=290474#p290474

When the name truly has been chnaged to "EasyCabinetMakerVer15.0.vgadget” and not EasyCabinetMakerVer15.0.vgadget.zip” (with a hidden .zip because of the show file extensions not being selected as detailed at the above link) you should not see a folder icon but rather an icon that is a black hexagon with two gears in white.

I'm getting a warning message that I cannot figure out why. I have all thickness set to .5 but I still get the error.

It is OKAY.... It is a Alert Message for you to know that sheets are the same as Sheet 1. It is best to check the thickness and dimensions before milling.
Thanks,
Jim

Thanks, Jim, for getting back. I’m trying hard to get just a default configuration to work without errors but no luck. Now I’m getting an error about Dado issues which I cannot figure out... I just want to be able to get just a default configuration to work using .75 material but maybe my tools are wrong. I have read the doc but still cannot figure it out. In the end I really want to use .5 material for the whole cabinet if that is possible.
I have attached the Message and my ini file if that helps. I had to change the file extension to jpg from ini.
