I had one aggravation using my Wen benchtop drill press. The depth stop was a knurled nut you spun up or down on a fine threaded post to set the depth you want your drill to stop at. Aggravating and slow to set.
I've made press button releases for a few other projects in the past (before I had a cnc), but thought I'd see if I could make the parts for a press button depth stop from aluminum on my Probotix CNC. Quick answer: Yes. Reality meant it took more than one try to learn the limits of what my CNC could handle. I made one out of HDPE (dense plastic) first. No real challenge as HDPE cuts easily.
An aluminum version came next.
This one required learning the limits of my CNC and how to deal with them. An earlier version came out undersized thanks to deflection of my bit making full width cuts through the aluminum. Ramping down between cuts took the sharp tips off the bits I was using. This last one eliminated full width passes and ramping for a fairly accurate outcome. Clamping the parts securely down to be cut proved critical. Lowering feed speed, bit RPB, pass depth, stepover all proved necessary.

Nice work! I like your approach.

Awesome 4D!!! Good Job!!!
I bet that took a mighty clever clamping technique to hold that small item in place for carving/machining!

Re: Small things.. A Press Button Depth Stop for my Drill Press
I've got a low profile vise I made to hold small parts when they aren't being cut all around. To cut the perimeter of the aluminum collar I started with a bandsaw rough cut block of aluminum only 1/8" or so larger than the final part. Used the CNC and a V-bit to mark exactly the center of where the top hole would be. Then took it off the CNC to drill a 1/4" hole through it there. Back to the CNC only this time used a t-track bolt up through that hole, with lock washer and nylock nut to clamp it down to my spoil board. Broke the perimeter cuts into unique toolpaths for each side of the part. As I cut each side I clamped a block against the opposite side to make sure it couldn't be turned. For subsequent sides I kept moving the block to new opposite sides.
When the perimeter was done, I unbolted it from the bed and moved it to my low profile vise for all the internal hole cuts. Started each hole with a center hole drilled on my drill press. Made tool paths that would drop into the center clearance before moving out to cut the perimeter of the hole. Very small steps down, usually 22 in the .75" thickness.

I'm planning on seeing if I can make one from 360 Brass. When the brass I ordered arrives next week and I've given it a try I'll post here again.
