Smokey

Post by Luvtocarve »

Can’t take credit for the artwork but this came out really nice. I think this is like 78 years since Smokey was created. I can remember my grandpa having a little magnetic Smokey ashtray on the (metal) dash of his Pontiac. Smokey rode around with GP & GM for many years and who knows how many miles.

I use a vinyl mask and carve through it. Then seal with sanding sealer and just paint with acrylic paints. When dry, peel away the mask. Lightly sand and varnish. Great results every time. VViVid blue masking available on Amazon

I think My grandparent's had the same ashtray! But it was in GP's '48 Chevy Farm truck. He taught me how to drive in that tuck and told me if SMOKEY ever fell off the dash I did something wrong. Thanks for the fast trip down memory lane.
Measure with a micrometer, Mark it with Chalk, Cut it with an ax, Beat it together.

Never smoked, but this brings b ack memories. I was born in Washington D.C. and as a kid I was actually at the Washington National Zoo in 1950 when Smokey came to the zoo from New Mexico!

Great work!
My first car (57 chevy) also had a metal dash. Girlfriends loved to put their bare feet on it for some reason. Also covered it with fridge magnets but no smokey. Always clear off the dash when you get a new girlfriend...
Great post!
