Textured bowls
I was able to spend some time lately with some fun projects, I had some 3”x 11” Cherry to make some bowls from and wanted to try a textured finish cut on them. These are always a challenge in the hard cherry with long bits, I do various clearing cuts so my finish cuts don’t run into anything. I’m pretty happy with how they came out.

Re: Textured bowls
Very nice work. How many hours to carve one?

Really nice work, Todd! Very nice texturing effect!
I don't want my wife to see these, she'll want one for sure!
@luvtocarve beat me to the question on how long it took. Big chunk of cherry.
I recently lifted the gantry on my CNC frame 50mm so I could cut thicker material. This gives me yet another idea!

Re: Textured bowls
They do take some time but I'm most concerned with having new learning projects come out well then trying to speed things up. I did blow 2 fuses during the work when there was some unexpected material left for the finishing cut but some learning about border vectors fixed that. I think the most wasted time was in the texture cuts due to the machine going to safe z between every cut, so lots of up and down. I will look into that next time.
Best thing about texture is it left a finish that required almost no sanding, my smooth bowls always need sanding to remove the tiny machine marks even with 8% stepover, especially on steep bowl sides.
One bowl from rough with flattening both sides to finished is a full day for me but I get other stuff done in the same time and can watch football too, could be worse.

Re: Textured bowls
Want to share a few files? I'm always interested in seeing 2 sided projects and how they were set up. I also like the texturing. Like the way the texturing looks like it as cut with a gouge. I've tried a few but just can't seem to get the settings right to look more hand made.
