Finished at last John Laws Clock 26 with remontoire

All Parts were cut out using workbee, including the brass fretwork. The wood is London plain which I was lucky enough to get two 7ft planks. Its a very beautiful wood, very close grain perfect for making clock cogs as the teeth dont shatter. trouble is its a very rare wood. Story is that sawyers wont cut it as its full of shrapnel as most of it comes from London. Biggest problem was the bearings which I originally got from China. These were so stiff even after cleaning in petrol so I purchased good open bearings.
I wouldnt suggest this clock as a first try. It took me months to get going reasonably. John Laws drawing is good but doesnt make allowance for the vagaries of wood. It certainly doesnt make allowance for an idiot varnishing the cogs. Great mistake. Danish oil is OK
I used John Laws DXF file in Vectric to create the tool paths. All cutouts used 1/8 Bit

That Really is a Beautiful project!! :)
Very well done!!
scott

(Ron...sometimes mistakenly sold in US as "Lacewood" but Plane carves better than real Lacewood.
Had a small piece of Plane one of my carpenters bought for an anniversary that was so nice,
I bought a real Lacewood 6/4 plank not being aware of anything but the Trade Name....
that Really needed some TLC to finish well).
Really IS a beautiful wood once I learned to cut across the grain after oiling, and then burnishing.
Worth picking up if you run across it!
Sorry for pics on your post Colin, but just wanted to show what sometimes shows up for us Yanks.

I've learned my lesson well. You can't please everyone,so you have to please yourself
