I am trying to learn new things to do and cnc at the same time and the Vectric projects are a good way for me to do that. One of the projects at the virtual AGM was on slicing and tooling a Gorilla head. I didn't need a Gorilla head but I have been looking for a Cow skull for a long time for my daughter and thought I'd give that a try and learn some along the way.
I searched and found a skull model I wanted to try and followed along with Todd on the UGM video, I'm pretty methodical so following along I seem to pick up what I need and more. I often do practice versions before doing the actual one too, I get better results that way as I learn.
The first one is in fir lumber painted white and smaller, the actual one is in Arbutus and coming out of 21" wide plank material I had custom cut some years ago, very nice material and almost unheard of size.
After I was done with the skulls I put the plank back on the machine to make snowflakes for the xmas tree.
I am doing some carving on it after assembling with the Foredom tool to hollow out the eye sockets and areas that need under cutting.
My daughter is pretty happy and no cows were harmed during the process,

Re: from the virtual UGM
Really... WOW!!!! That looks so great... and the slicing shows or creates the illusion of the undercuts in the skull! Looks better than my gorilla head... (don't tell Garry the Gorilla that )
Thanks so much for sharing this. Slicing is a wonderful tool... hope to see more folks using it to create inspiring projects like this.
Thanks Todd!!!

Very impressive pieces!!
Like the grain effect on the Madrone...almost looks like years of bleaching and wind blown sand etching!
Well Done!
