A wonderful Christmas Present

Post by johntech2014 »

Here is my 3rd Virgin Mary Christmas present for my wife this year. Bought online, and it cut out of 3/4" hard Maple. It took about 6-7 hours to cut using a 1/16" ball nose but with 8% stepover. I finished it up with a couple coats of Zinsser's Bulls eye Shellac.

That's a beautiful piece .A very clean cut with a 1/16 ballnose . You didn't say what size it is, but personally I would have used a 1/32 TBN. I know I run into alot of machine time, but it is what I do. Thanks for sharing, well done .

Dave
The piece ended up at 8 3/4" x 24" x 3/4"

This time, I manually increased the machine feed speed to see if I could reduce the total time.
Everything worked out fine so I may make the change permanent on the next one I do.
Since I'm using a router, I don't like to push too hard so as to not wear out the bearings.
I take the covers off and spray silicon in the bearings once in a while. Some day a real spindle!!

Thank you everyone for the compliments. This project does take time to cut but it always turns out beautiful when finished.

VCarve Pro 10.5x never lets me down.

I use it for both my CNC machine and my JTech laser.

Very beautiful carve, the maple is very nice with the
flow of the grain pattern. Nice selection of the board.
It seems the light wood really makes the carving
stand out.
