PM&T Treasure Box

Post by Bob Jr »

Pegged Mortise and Tennon joinery continues to intrigue me. I wanted to try a clunky version of the Paradise Box, so here it is. This is my January project for our group of home schooled children. It involves no glue, no nails, beginner level skills. Lots of sawdust and careful sawing, and a dowel hinge. All parts are removed from the parts panel, sanded, and assembled. If assembled wrong, they're easy to take apart and tried another way. I think that lid's kind of cool with it's high security lock.

Hey Bob,

Love the thought you put into these projects! I'm sure the kids truly enjoy making them and lear a pile while doing it!

Thanks so much for sharing and inspiring our younger generation (along with this "older" generation :D ).

+1 to what Todd said Bob!!

I'm a big fan of through tenons and wedges, and it's a great concept to continue and pass on!
Good work Bob!!
I've learned my lesson well. You can't please everyone,so you have to please yourself

Thank you,
I credit Beki for getting me started with wedged mortise and tenon joinery. I've got to try it next with a bird house.
If anyone wants to try this one, here's the crv. Just make sure you understand what's going on before cutting.

What tolerances do you use between the male and female components. Is there an easy way to duplicate the female part from the male by adding this tolerance?
I have done some mortise and tenon but have always had to do it via trial and error on scraps

I try not to overthink a process, therefore I designed for .5 plywood and used the less-than-.5 ply for the projects. The most planning I did was to move the mortises a little bit closer to the part they were connecting. This allowed for more wedge power. For these projects I preferred to work with too loose rather than too tight.
Plus, I did what Beki did...

Super job! Thank you Bob Jr for sharing the CRV. Please tell me, what did Beki do...? I don't know/can't find a matching link!
The more I learn the more I forget.

Thank you OT,
Beki's project I'm referring to is her world famous Christmas Beer Caddy: https://www.vectric.com/vectric-communi ... sBeerCaddy
Her project has been the source of much inspiration and entertainment for me...and for a bunch of students!
