The fun walking Cane

I am still playing with the rotary machining and learning a lot but I wanted to finish off a walking cane with a fun handle so I used a Design and make file from the Machinists collection. I made it a double sided job and then copied it through to the other side. I started to drill a hole in the bottom of the carving but it was not going too straight so I ended up milling it on the CNC instead, slower but much safer.

The wood type is Jarrah so it should be fairly strong. The top part of the stick is profile cut with v bit on the 4th axis and the remainder was just rounded on the 4th axis. This the first cane I have made and I guess that if I make one for someone else they will prefer a more conventional style.

My wife loves the Green Man from the D&M collection and I have added that to some of her planters and a gate in the garden but I can see that it will one day be added to cane when I figure out to do that.

I have been having issues just designing the basics of the cane (70yrs old so go figure ) and was wondering if you would share that with me without the head of course? I have Aspire 10.5 with the 4th axis, it would help me so much with other designs. I can do the basics but not good with the tapering part using any of the 2 rail sweep or extruding tools.

To be honest I don't what type or brand the rotary axis is because it came with CNC I bought from China CNC zone.
The 4th axis is a lot of fun

I did have to modify the mounting arrangements so I could get full use of the machining area which is only 600x400mm on a desktop machine that is why the stick is made in 2 parts with a joining brass ferrule to be able to get the length. It was just a plumbing brass socket that I sanded down, I will try and buy the proper parts for the next one.

Joe I tried to add a file to the PM but it didn't work so I have attached them here, if you can open the file then you will see the basic intent but it maybe could be done better with Aspire and I am sure there are more experienced people on this site who could offer a better way of creating the taper.

Thank you for the file, I will give it a try as soon as I can clean up around the end of my machine. I have a small bandsaw sawmill and have cut more wood than I will ever need and It is crowding my shop, 2 storage bldgs and a 12x20 temporary garage (from Harbor Freight).

The D&M Machinist pack was an unusual set of models I can only guess that they have some Celtic symbol roots maybe.
There are fantastic models in the Design and Make collections and I look forward to using a lot more when I start selling things.
