Star Wars Calendar

Post by Phil »

I carved this Star Wars calendar for my grandson.

David Gonzalez has made his Star Wars Azteca design available free as well.

Here is a link to Dropbox for the Marvel calendar file. This is a 12" diameter circle. It is usually advised to create your own cut files.
I checked the original file which was 48" diameter with the vector validator and made the necessary fixes.

Looks very nice. I have already made one for my computer room wall. Thanks for the link though. On page 34 of David's website is the actual file for download. I downloaded this file from the Inventables website just before he removed it and asked that it not be used late last year. I had already laid out a new guitar project that has been on hold waiting for news that it was ok to use it. I guess it has been resolved and I can proceed with the guitar build and show it in the Aspire forum. :)

This will be the top panel of the guitar, the Millennium Falcon will be used for the tailpiece.

Thanks to all this was a fun project and my grandkids love it.
Carve One, I like your website. You have really done some beautiful work with the paradise boxes. I also like the Celtic cross. Is that your design of one from Vectric. I'm interested in carving one.

Thanks,

Phil

I'm not sure which cross you are interested in. Is it at the bottom of the home page or one of those in the Additional Photos folder? There is a Celtic Christian Cross file in the Downloads folder. I have made so many I can't track them anymore. I started with images I found online and converted them to vectors to work with. The first ones were not cut through the wood. Later, I thought of cutting the design all the way through and liked the looks much better. I can probably find the file if I know which one you are interested in. Search this website for my projects. I love any of the Celtic weave designs and was very happy when Aspire added that feature. Went nuts with it, I did. :D

I found in my backup files the Celtic Christian Cross.crv3d file in three sizes. The smallest is sized for a 5.5" by 8" red oak board. The file size is 7.5Mb for a RAR compressed file and 8mb for a ZIP compressed file. I saved just the vectors as a DXF file so I can upload it here. Create the 3D model as a round shape of 0.072" height using the Create Shape from Vector tool.

You can scale it as you wish to. Back in 2015 when I made this Cross I used a Whiteside 60 degree 1/2" wide carbide blade style cutter with a small radius tip.

My website is way out of date, and has no room for additional files in the Downloads folder, so this is about the best I can do for you at this time. Thanks in the interest in the CC Cross.

Thank you. :) Have you tried this as a V Carve cut? Looks pretty good. I know it's not complete.

I cut a true Vcarve version of it long ago in Vcarve Pro. They look good also, and are considerably faster to cut. The version on my website is a Vcarve version that was converted to something that looks like a rounded Vcarve design, and it shows the segmented look where the lines should be continuous shapes that crosses over and under each other for a true woven Celtic knot look. I have decorated the ring with bumps and other shapes, then went on to much more elaborate crosses that have twisted ropes in parts of them.

Hi Phil,
Just wanted to let you know that my Star Wars Aztec Calendar mash-up guitar is under construction and is expected to be completed by sometime late next week. I will post photos and details in the Aspire Forum on this website. All of the major parts are cut and sanded, with lots more to be done to complete it. :D

Phil, can you give us some idea as to the techniques you used, especially the bit or bits used. I'd like to keep the wood color with the carving black any suggestions. By the way the Dropbox link did not work for me.

The Star War calendar was one VCarve toolpath with a 60 degree V-bit with a flat depth at .25" . I'm not sure why the Dropbox file isn't working. If you send me your email I will send the file to you.
