Hi John
This project took me about 12 months, research and building. The original piece is in the London Science Museum and some of the parts are missing. Michael Wright (with the science museum) made a replica out of Brass and provided the gear train to accomplish the various displays. My model is slightly larger than the original because I used wood gearing and the main driving gear is a very small 7 tooth gear. The brass-like front and back are actually plastic. The brushed brass is a coating on a black plastic. So all the lines and symbols where engraved on the plastic. That plastic (and many more) are available through Johnson Plastics in Portland, Oregon. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have. Thanks for the nice comments - Mike G

Mike, thanks for the breakdown of the project. All your research and attention to detail really show. I like your use of plastic and your finishing techniques to make it look realistic.

Thanks for sharing.

It's a beautiful piece of engineering and craftsmanship!

Does it function as intended?
