Excellent job Ron!!! :)
Really looks nice with the contrasts!
Got a question though...is this another case of carefully laminating the woods before cutting?

Well done!
scott

That barbed wire looks more dangerous than the croc :)

Thank you Scott.
Yes the Croc and wire were glued on top of the oak then a roughing and final toolpath to reveal the oak underneath.
The only problem I had was a couple of tips of the wire were damaged during the final pass.... don't know why there was glue underneath the broken tips.

Thanks for the close-up pic Ron.....Was that barb unsupported end grain, or did you have the same thing happen on top/bottom strands?

STILL a gorgeous piece!! :)
(gotta try that sometime)

Blame the missing tips on the croc. Nice looking piece. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you all for your comments.
Thinking about the broken barb, yes end grain could be the issue but it was only on one side, probably lack of clamping pressure in that area.
Clamping while the project is on the spoilboard can be difficult to achieve even pressure even more so when dealing with 2 shapes and little clamping area.
Will try it again on my next box.

Ron.....My carpenters once got into an argument as to whether to acetone Purpleheart......
JUST read this;
https://www.wood-database.com/wood-arti ... hardwoods/

Maybe it will help next time?
scott

At first I was wondering if tip of bit was dull or had picked up enough oily residue to generate 150F...which TB glues don't like.
I use Bladecote to clean bits with brass brush(or stainless) to get almost invisible coating off at every bit change, but acetone/denatured work well...
They just don't leave the surface film that Bladecote does, that DOES work from my hand routing days building house.

Hi Scott,

I do clean all my bits before starting a new project using a CMT cleaning product and a stiff brush that I use for my saw blades as well. For the final pass I used a 1/16 TBN at 7% stepover.
I usually leave 1mm from the roughing pass... maybe I will try reducing this to 0.5mm and see how I go . must admit have not has this problem before using stacked timbers.

That looks really nice but I have to ask, what's going on with the foam fitted in the lid? That circle shape doesn't look to be from the Knife & from what I can see (could be the meds) looks to have a sort of face in it
