One of my "to do" projects has been playing with the idea of routing silhouettes into note pads. I have also been using stencil fonts to cut names into the pads. To protect the top and bottom of the note pads while machining, I use two spoil boards. Here's the result of my research:

And, since I live in Wisconsin:
I like to machine the pads with the cardboard side up. This way the cardboard provides better support when using an up-cut bit. I cut a pocket of the object in the top spoil board, and use a profile cut for the pad. It speeds up the operation. So far, I have successfully done this with three pads stacked together at once.Routing note pads
