Hows the Wedding Planning going?

Post by BigC »

Hi Ya'll
My son is getting married in a couple of weeks and asked me to make a Mr and Mrs piece of decor for the top table at the reception.
This is what I came up with on my new toy with my limited experience.
As yet unfinished, but I still have time, I hope.
Don't you just love the smell of fresh paint at a wedding!

Is that fresh paint going to be dry or wet to the touch? Thank you for sharing.

Thanks, Michael and all the other members who commented, I hope I can do it justice in the finishing stages

With all that hot air coming out during the speeches, it's bound to dry real quick

Well, things are scuttling along nicely, with lots of "I wonder if I had done this or I hadn't done that" thrown in.
Crackle coat went better than expected (just needs a little rub down with sandpaper to get a distressed look and a few coats of varnish)...and I had my first go at a dish.
Learning all the while. :D

Thanks Michael, takes a bit of time though
Whilst I wait for the Varnish to dry on the Mr & Mrs project, I'm busy sanding down again.
My son also wanted something to remember loved ones who have passed over.
So I made this for the table of photographic reminders.
Still, a fair bit to do, only got a week left

Beautiful work on all of it and I know you are going to have over the moon Bride and Groom with all your work. However, I really love the Bit of Heaven sign you have crafted. Thank you for showing your work. Blessings to all for the wedding.

Thanks, guys for the kind words, I am but a mere novice in all of this
The dish is far from perfect in the finishing sense.
The idea was to stain. American Walnut
Now, first off the bat, I wanted to get a good heavy coat down into the text and the shading of the rings. yes I got bleeding but I expected that
I have sanded it all back up to leave the aforementioned facets. My problem is, What is the best way to get a nice clean (non-blotchy) universal and even stain coat over the whole job before I varnish.? Do I use a cloth or brush for the stain application?
I hope if poss to get a faint red colouration into the heart pockets just as a subtle highlight. (perhaps watered down paint smudge or red wax crayon)
any help appreciated
